Mission Statement:

The Human Resources Department's mission is to promote the vision of the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office by aiding and advocating for employees and BCSO retirees through the management of benefit programs, BCSO policies and procedures, labor relations; by promoting a positive work environment and by ensure an experienced and diverse workforce for the Barnstable County Sheriff's Office.

Application Process  

The Barnstable County Sheriff's Office accepts applications only in response to an open job posting. Notice will be sent to those applicants who have applied to a position with no current opening informing them of the application process. If an applicant applies for the Corrections Officer position after job posting has closed, their application will be saved for the next academy recruitment.

Please complete the following steps:

  1. Applicants are encouraged to apply via the link provided in the Employment Opportunities job posting. Applicants may also submit a complete Application for Employment. The application must be completed in its entirety and all required signature pages must be signed and dated. If you attach a résumé, you are still required to complete the entire application.
  2. Indicate the position applying for on the application. You may not apply for more than one position using the same application. Each position you apply for will require a separate application.
  3. Make sure that you have provided us with a working telephone number and accurate email address to contact you. Contacts for interviews are handled by telephone and interview scheduling and confirmation will be handled via email. Applicants who provide inaccurate contact information may lose out on employment with the BCSO. 
  4. Applicants who are selected for employment that applied via the MassCareers link will be required to fill out the Application for Employment.

All applications will be reviewed with the appropriate department(s). They will screen, review, and select candidates to be interviewed.

The minimum requirements are job specific, however applicants for general employment must meet the below requirements: 

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of job application. 
  • Must be authorized to work in the US. 
  • Valid, Active & Renewable Driver’s License. 
  • Ability to meet the BCSO physical standards for the position. 
  • All candidates are subject to a comprehensive background check and drug screening. Employment offers are contingent upon the successful completion of the background check.
